Project 2 New Architecture Department

My concept model of the new project designing a new architecture department.

Project Brief - You are to design a small architecture faculty on the Bath Campus.The new Architecture faculty will need to run independently to the existing faculty but it will also need to be intrinsically linked as the existing faculty will remain and will function as the main HQ. Instead of housing the whole of the architecture school the building need only be big enough to house first and second year and the necessary infrastructure.Accommodation will include: Studio space, Pin up space, workshops, lecture rooms, offices, refectory etc.The building is to be flexible – allowing for the fluctuation of numbers within year groups, overall change of numbers, as well as changes in the way different year groups may be integrated together to encourage a cross fertilization of ideas.The larger spaces, at least, will be structured using a frame. Different materials will generate different solutions so it will be worth exploring the general principles of these. Steel, timber, concrete, or a hybrid solution. You will be given a choice of two sites. You will carry out a brief site analysis of your chosen site. From this you will begin to generate a brief relationship diagram in response to the site which will form the basis of your building design together with your site strategy.
